The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is a state agency responsible for promoting and protecting public health, welfare, and ecological resources through effective reduction of air pollutants.CARB oversees all air pollution control efforts in California to attain and maintain health-based air quality standards.

The Truck and Bus Regulation applies to nearly all diesel-fueled trucks, buses, and school buses with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) greater than 14,000 pounds.This includes both privately and federally owned diesel vehicles operated in California.

Here's how: Locate Your Vehicle's Emission Control Information Label: This label is typically found in the engine compartment or near the driver's door jamb. It provides details about the vehicle's emission standards and certification.​ Access CARB's Certification Document Management System Search for Your Vehicle's Executive Order: Use the system to search for your vehicle's Executive Order by entering relevant details such as the manufacturer, model year, and engine family name.​ Review the Executive Order: The Executive Order will outline the specific emission standards your vehicle complies with, confirming its certification status. DMV Registration Holds: CARB can place a hold on your vehicle's registration, preventing renewal until compliance is achieved.​ Fines and Penalties: Financial penalties may be imposed for operating non-compliant vehicles.​ Operational Restrictions: Non-compliant vehicles may be prohibited from operating within California.
